Acupuncture is a healing technique of traditional Chinese medicine.
It is believed in traditional Chinese medicine that there are channels of energy “meridians” in
our body which are pathways circulating our vital energy called “qi or chi”. These pathways are
connected to certain points called acupoints. An imbalance of this energy or disruptions in its
flow can cause pain and various disorders in the body. By stimulating acupoints using thin metal
needles, the flow of energy in the meridian can be improved and the energy balance can be
restored which relieves pain.
This technique has been around for over 2000 years and is a safe and effective method.
It can be used for a wide range of disorders including emotional disorders, digestive disorders,
insomnia, hormone imbalances, pain disorders, and chronic diseases and many more

Pooneh Malaekeh is a doctor of pharmacy from Iran and a Registered Pharmacist and Registered Acupuncturist in BC. She earned her PharmD from Mashhad medical university in Iran in 2000. After moving to Canada, she received her pharmacy license in BC and worked as a pharmacist for 10 years. While working as a pharmacist, she really enjoyed helping her patients through symptom-based approaches of treatment, but she also had a passion for holistic healing methods. She wanted to find a way to treat patients by their body’s natural ability rather than using chemical medications. This is when she discovered the holistic approaches of traditional Chinese medicine, and she developed an interest in acupuncture as a safe and effective method for the treatment of bodily imbalances. Thus, she decided to change her path and pursue acupuncture. When treating her patients, she uses various modalities including acupuncture, electro-acupuncture, motor point acupuncture, scalp acupuncture, auricular acupuncture, cupping, Gua sha, and acupressure. She also does facial acupuncture and facial cupping and Gua sha for facial rejuvenation. In addition to her strong commitment to health and wellness, Pooneh enjoys painting, playing piano, baking and decorating cakes, and developing her spiritual knowledge.
